Goals for 2019

Happy New Year 2019! It's so exciting to have a brand new year ahead of us and a fresh calendar to pencil in upcoming events and activities. Today I'm sharing my overall plan and goals for 2019.

My overall plan for the year is to create nice memories with my family and friends, to stay healthy, and to enjoy life. I group my specific goals in three categories: Family & Friends, Health, and Leisure.

MY GOALS FOR 2019:

FAMILY & FRIENDS
  • Do four fun family outings, tentatively in January, April, July, and August.
  • Go on a trip with my sister in March.
  • Visit a cousin who lives abroad, tentatively in June.
  • Get together with my family clan, approximately every two months.
  • Meet up with my friends as many times as possible throughout the year.

HEALTH
  • Meditate 15 minutes daily.
  • Find humour to smile or laugh daily.
  • Walk 45 minutes near nature 6x/ week.
  • Strength workouts 3x/ week.
  • Yoga 2x/ week.
  • Swim 1x/ week.

LEISURE
  • View three art exhibits/ month.
  • Blog weekly, except when I travel.
  • Read three books/ month.
  • Listen to three concerts/ month.
  • Learn French and Spanish, 15 minutes/ day for each language.
  • Watch three movies/ month.
  • Travel to explore five new-to-me countries this year.
  • Try at least one new food dish in each of the countries I visit.

I'm motivated to achieve my goals. I expect to accomplish more in some areas when I'm at home than when I travel. I'm open to try something new that is not on the list as well.

To track my progress, I'm using a simple sheet. It makes it easy for me to see at a glance how I'm doing and to share my monthly summary on my blog throughout the year.

Before I end this post, a friendly reminder that our first Wellness link-up of 2019 is on Wednesday, January 9. Feel free to join in on the fun and share your wellness-related post. I look forward to reading what you have to say.

Your turn...What are your goals for 2019?

  1. I love how you break your goals down into these chunks. I'm still deciding how I'm going to approach my year. I think I'll make it my blog for next week's lovin' life.

  2. Impressive list and goals, Natalie. Strategic planning seems to work well for you. My life is totally opposite, where almost nothing is planned. And, when it is, it’s likely to change. Luckily, we are flexible with that. :-) My big goals for 2019: finish and publish (or find a publisher) my memoir, obtain my US citizenship, travel full-time.

    1. Your goals are great, Liesbet, and it's wonderful to have flexibility. I need to plan when it involves my family and friends based on their availability. Other than that I have flexibility, however, I do aim for consistency.

  3. Hi, Natalie - Once again you have created a very impressive and inspirational list of goals which I already know you will achieve. My only question is where is your 'trip to BC'? :)

    1. Haha, Donna, you almost got me there. I saved myself by stating "I'm open to try something new that is not on the list as well." I plan to be in Regina July 6-12. I can try to tag on a trip to BC if you let me know your availability.

  4. You have ambitious goals set aside for the new year but if anyone can meet them, you can! My goal board is still reading 'spring goals'. Need to remedy that.
Walking near nature is such a doable, enjoyable goal. I do miss my morning walks that I was taking before I started back to work part-time. Need to just get up a bit earlier, I guess. And you have always impressed me with your enthusiastic study of French and Spanish.

Will look forward to following along your journey this year.

  15. All the best with your goals Natalie. Like "they" say if you don't write them down it won't happen. We have had a reasonably well planned life so far, 2019 is now become one that can't be planned. Feels rather strange!

  21. I love this! I like how you used the three main areas with specific goals for each. I set my writing goals for the year, but neglected to do any personal goals. I think adding in some personal goals, especially those that are good for the soul, the mind, and the body would add balance.
Thank you for sharing! I'm off to go round out a few of my 2019 goals now!

  22. Hi Natalie - I love how specific and measurable your goals are! (Mine are not nearly that specific.) French & Spanish at same time - quite challenging! How many countries have you visited? And 5 new ones planned in 2019... that's impressive! Good luck with all your plans. visiting from #MLSTL

    1. Hi Patricia - Specific and measurable goals work for me. I knew basic French before picking up Spanish so it's additional stretching for my brain. I've visited 51 countries to date, some several times. Now I'd like to visit new ones. Thank you for visiting. Happy 2019 to you!

  28. Natalie, your fitness goals impress me. How do you find time to walk 45 minutes a day, AND do yoga, swimming, and strength workouts too? I walk at least 30 minutes a day five days a week (or equivalent cardio, like skiing or hiking), and do yoga twice a week. But I don’t know how I could find to fit in much more exercise along with everything else in my life. Although, I suppose I could spend less time sitting on my butt blogging!

    1. Hi Jude - I think as long as you keep mobility in your days, it helps our fitness level. On weekdays and Saturdays, I reserve 45 minutes for my walk and one hour for one of the fitness activities (gym or yoga or swimming). It's doable and has become habitual for me.
