Wellness Wednesday June 6


Welcome to our 6th Wellness Wednesday link up in 2018! Today I'm providing updates on my May wellness goals, setting a few goals for June, and linking up with a group of terrific bloggers who are also on the wellness adventure.

The optional prompt this month is Mental health care tips. I'll share what I do to stay mentally healthy. I look forward to reading any tips that my fellow bloggers or readers may have to share.

May wellness goal updates:
  1. Meditate 15 minutes daily: I continued to meet this goal in May. I feel that I've got a good habit doing this by now.
  2. Exercise one hour daily: I got my exercises done by walking, running 5K, yoga, or working out in the gym, both at home and when I traveled in May.
  3. Smile or laugh daily: I had a marvellous May and many reasons to smile or laugh daily.
  4. Visit four European capitals: Yes! I visited Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius, and Warsaw. The trip was wonderful. I'll write more about it later this month.
  5. Finalize summer travel plans: Yes! I booked flights and accommodations for our family trip to Quebec city in July, and Paris, France in August. The online French lessons that I've been taking will be useful for both trips.
June wellness goals: With warmer weather and upcoming fun-filled social and travel activities in the summer months, I'll stick with the following wellness goals:
  1. Meditate 15 minutes daily.
  2. Exercise one hour daily.
  3. Smile or laugh daily. 
  4. Take online French and Spanish lessons daily, fifteen minutes for each language.
What I do to stay mentally healthy:
  • Know my own limits and what stresses me out
  • Be proactive with self-care by doing consistent meditation, exercises, getting enough sleep, and eating a healthy diet
  • Focus on the positives and find humour even in difficult situations
  • Take time out to rest and recharge
  • Have a fun list to do what I enjoy on a regular basis

  2. I'm in envy of your travel plans - but in a good way. It's so important to have things to look forward to. Walking is my saviour - from a mental health thing. And looking for the humour - I always try to see that.

  3. You're doing so well with achieving your wellness goals Natalie! I've just started a 6 week yoga course. I'll go every Friday - one down, second tomorrow. I love it so far. I need to get away more often but it's been hard to lately and will continue to be hard to get away for a while yet. Have a fabulous June! #TeamLovinLife

    1. Your yoga course sounds great, Min! Once you know the poses, you can practice yoga at your convenience. In lieu of getting away, maybe mini breaks near or at home would work.

  4. We loved Quebec City when we visited about 3 years ago Natalie. I also agree with all of your mental health tips and travelling is certainly a good way to keep a positive mental attitude. You are also doing well with your wellness goals and you keep me motivated. Have a great week!

  8. Do you meditate at the same time everyday? If so, is it in the morning? My days are all so different - and I love and crave a routine - that it is hard to say I am going to meditate every morning at 9:00 am. And when you suggest resting and recharging, is that something you do everyday? Like a nap? I took a nap yesterday and felt so much better the rest of the afternoon and evening. My mom was always a strict 30 minute nap taker every afternoon. I am thinking it might be a good way for me to de-stress!!!

    1. Hi Leslie, I usually meditate when I wake up in the morning and before bed at night. The latter I do with deep breathing to help me fall asleep.

      The weather is nice now to sit outdoor and relax. On Sundays after my 5K run, I may go for a nap in the afternoon. When I go out exploring, because I walk everywhere, to rest and recharge, I like to take a coffee break, find a nice spot to sit down, enjoy my coffee, and people watch.

      I read somewhere about the benefits of power naps. I have no guilt taking one when I feel like it. If they help you, go for it! Have a beautiful weekend!

  9. I know I say this all of the time but I sooooo need to develop some of your healthy habits! I'm lucky to get 5000 steps in most days at the moment so I at least need to target that at a minimum.

    And yes, laughing daily would be a good thing as well! #teamlovinlife
